New Flag_New Hymn for EU

“New Flag_New Hymn for European Union” was created for exhibition which crowns the “Mission Europe” project. To answer for questions of organizers of this project, I decided to design New Flag and New Hymn for European Union. Both, New Flag and New Hymn, are created on a base of flags and hymns of all EU members. Naturally, when any new member will join to Eu, New Flag and New Hymn will be also changed. Both symbols created by me will be present in the movie form; picture = flag, sound = hymn. The movie, except three exhibitions: Marseille, La Friche La Belle De Mai, 04-13.04.2007, Katowice, Galeria Rondo Sztuki, 24.04-04.05.2007, Weimar, E-Werk Strassenbahndepot, 10-20.05.2007, will be also shown in internet: www.agaszreder.pl from 05.04.2007.

The history of "New Flag_New Hymn for EU"

March 1957
The Treaties establishing the European Economic Community (EEC) and the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom) are signed by the Six (Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands) in Rome as of today they will be referred to as the "Treaties of Rome".

January 1973
The six become nine when Denmark, Ireland and the United Kingdom formally enter the EU.

January 1981
Membership of the EU reaches double figures when Greece joins. It has been eligible to join since its military regime was overthrown and democracy restored in 1974.

January 1986
Spain and Portugal enter the EU, bringing membership to 12.

January 1995
Austria, Finland and Sweden join the EU. The 15 members now cover almost the whole of western Europe.
In October 1990, Germany was unified and therefore former East Germany became part of the EU.

May 2004
Eight countries of central and eastern Europe - the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia and Slovakia - join the EU, finally ending the division of Europe decided by the Great Powers 60 years earlier at Yalta. Cyprus and Malta also become members.

January 2007
Two more countries from eastern Europe, Bulgaria and Romania, now join the EU, brining the number of member states to 27 countries. Croatia, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Turkey are also candidates for future membership.
